Owl City the break though artist who almost literally came from nowhere. There are not many successful artists coming from Owatonna, Minnesota. So what is Owl City?. Owl City is a Synth/Pop project by Adam Young. Adam Young started playing music as a result of a sleeping disorder. Owl City released an EP Of June(2007) hit # 20 and Maybe I’m Dreaming(Full-Length 2008) hit # 16 on “Billboard Electronic Albums Chart”. In 2009 Owl City signed with Universal Republic and released Ocean Eyes. (IMDB 2010)
Ocean Eyes is an Owl City second full-length album. Ocean Eyes was released in stores on Sept.1 2009. The 2-disk deluxe edition was released on Jan. 26 2010. “Fireflies” was the first single released on July 14 2009 and reached #1 on “U.S. Billboard 100″. “Fireflies” also hot #1 on “U.S. Billboard Dance Electronic Album”, #1 “Rock Album”, and #1 “Alternative Album”. The album Ocean Eyes hit #8 on Billboard 200. It has sold around 609,000 copies. All of the songs are almost entirely written and performed by Adam Young. My high school self would probably not like this album. I was very closed minded back then. But now that I can make decisions without someone saying “How can you actually like that”. I bought the album and it has been on replay for almost a month. I say this album is awesome. It sounds like these happiest songs ever. This opinion is mostly based on the sounds of the keyboard parts and the lyrics. This album allows you to feel that it is ok to have an active imagination often preferred. It’s so cool that Adam Young wrote almost all of the songs by himself, he performed everything on the album. Adam Young also produced and recorded the album himself. Another artist that works like this is Daniel Victor of Neverending White Lights. This level of dedication and hard work result in a excellent album and massive success. I would not be surprised if Owl City walk away with a Grammy award or 2 at the 2010 awards.
The artwork for the deluxe edition album is also cool. I think the art really goes with the mood of the songs. The deluxe edition and original version have different artwork. The deluxe edition case contains pages of images of an ocean coast, a beach, a city between an ocean and the sky with what looks objects from space. Inside the booklet contains the lyrics to the songs and pictures of Adam Young performing live.
These are the stand out songs and my interpretations of the songs:
1. “Cave In”- about despising a place and waning to leave.
3. “Hello Seattle”- sounds like he is saying one way or another he will have an affect on Seattle.
7. “Meteor Shower”- probably the least happiest song on the album. Sounds like what is being said is the fear of being left alone or left behind.

9. “Fireflies”- about the magic that occurs while one dreams and wanting it to never end.
11. “Vanilla Twilight”- a song about lack of sleep, but finding beauty in the wold that the character lives in and wanting to share this experience with someone he loves.
The bonus disk as a mix of re-released and re-worked material from the EP Of June and the first full-length album Maybe I’m Dreaming. 6 of the songs sound like they would of fit perfectly on Ocean Eyes. The music sounds the same and the lyrics are along the lines as “Cave In” and “Hello Seattle”. There is also a re-mix version of “Hello Seattle” on the bonus disk and it is good. There is even more electronics on the version than the original.
The stand out songs on bonus disk: 1. “Hot Air Balloon”, 4. “Sunburn” ,
5. “Hello Seattle” (Re-mix), 7. “Strawberry Avalanche”
I definitely recommend people check out Ocean Eyes by Owl City.
