From Paducah to Pikeville, you’ll find lakes, rivers, waterfalls, caves, forests, mountains and rolling fields of bluegrass dotted with horse farms and bourbon distilleries. You’ll also find exciting cities, rich culinary traditions and more outdoor adventures than you can possibly squeeze into one trip. Horsemen from Virginia came to the area in north-central Kentucky, just 80 miles south of Cincinnati, in the late 1700s. The first Thoroughbred arrived in 1779, and by 1789, there were more horses.
